Council put the final touches on nixing $84 million in capital spending from the 2015 budget.

It approved the savings that will be found in the RMWB’s budget from 2015-2019.

Mayor and council undertook the review of all capital projects over $10 million in march.

Forty million dollars in savings will be found on committed debt and $44 million on municipal financing.

Cancelled projects include the Conklin Waste Water Treatment Plant with a price tag of forty million dollars and the District Energy Supply and Return Pipe – PLB Portion which would’ve cost $25 million.

“I’m pleased with the significant progress that we made as a Council during this review,” said Councillor Tyran Ault who brought the initial motion forward. “We’ve saved a substantial amount of taxpayers’ dollars, while maintaining Municipal services.”

It also reduced the budget on the Northside Twin Arenas by $7 million and the Enterprise Resource Planning Solution by twelve million dollars.

“Some of the work we did in 2015 to adjust the budget shows that Council is aware that the economy around has changed and the environment we’re working in has changed,” said Councillor Sheldon Germain.

A number of other projects were also deferred including the Clearwater Park System Construction; Flood Mitigation Construction; Flood Mitigation – Predesign and Design; Prairie Creek Loop Boulevard; and the construction of Road B at Saline Creek.
