Tonight at council, administration is recommending that it support the idea of a Fort McMurray to Peace River Transportation and Utility Corridor.

The Northern Alberta Development Council is proposing a report that will look at the cost and benefits of the concept.

That could include rail, road, oil and gas pipelines, power, water and phone lines.

The development council says the report will influence possible long-term development as well as reduce environmental impact.

City staff says it would be a necessary route to Fort McKay, Fort Chipewyan and much of the region’s oil sands development.

So far, three municipal districts has given support: Spirit River, Peace and Clear Hills County.

The developoment council says it’s also looking for input from other community stakeholders.
