Crash on 63 near Hangingstone kills one

Highway 63 has completely re-opened following a fatal motor vehicle collision south of Fort McMurray. Investigators have determined that a southbound passenger car had attempted to overtake and pass several other vehicles when it lost control and was struck by an oncoming pickup truck travelling northbound. The driver and lone occupant of the pickup truck was treated and released at the collision scene while the driver and lone occupant of the passenger car was killed instantly. Speed and slippery road conditions were contributing causes of the collision. The deceased is a 65 year old male from Calgary, AB.

One person is dead after a fatal crash on Highway 63; 30 minutes south of Fort McMurray.

It happened just after noon near the Hangingstone Campground.

Wood Buffalo RCMP say a pickup truck and a car were involved in the crash.

The highway was closed both ways for the investigation and traffic re-routed to 881.

63 re-opened just after 3 o’clock.
