There’s still a fire ban in place for the region as crews battle fires south of Fort McMurray.

Wildfire Information Officer Geoffrey Driscoll says they’re using helicopters, bulldozers and tankers to fight the fire near Grassland that closed Highway 63.

“The bulldozers, especially, will get in there during the evening when it’s a lot cooler and there’s less fire burning,” said Driscoll.

Meanwhile, fire offcials have lifted the mandatory evacuation order for the Forsythe Lake area in the Municipal District of Bonnyville.

Fire conditions have improved, and residents are now allowed to return their homes, although drivers are still asked to avoid roads into the area as crews are still fighting the fire.
