The Wood Buffalo RCMP is partnering with Crime Stoppers Alberta to launch a new “Crime of the Week” feature that will see them asking for the public’s help in solving historic crimes once a week.
This week’s crime is from February of last year and is a robbery in which two men were assaulted with a weapon while trying to make a deposit outside the Royal Bank downtown.
Police were called on February 4, 2015, around 3:45 p.m. after the robbery had taken place. They learned the two men were outside at the ATM when they were approached by a lone suspect who used a weapon to incapacitate the men and then steal the cash they’d been trying to deposit.
The suspect made off with a bag of cash carrying an undisclosed amount.
Both victims were treated for minor injuries in hospital.
At the time the suspect was described as being about 6’1″ tall with a slender build. He was wearing dark pants and a grey winter jacket with a fur-lined hood.
The robbery prompted a caution for the public to be on the lookout for someone uncharacteristically in possession of an unusual amount of money and asked they contact the police about such a suspicious person.
Anyone with information about this historic robbery is asked to call the Wood Buffalo RCMP at 780-788-4040 or to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
