Cruiser rear-ended, street racers facing fines in busy week for RCMP

Wood Buffalo RCMP say they’ve charged a driver after he rear-ended a police cruiser on Highway 881.

It happened on Wednesday, when police were flagging speeders near Gregoire Lake Estates.

The driver of a Jeep being pulled over was trying to put on his seatbelt, when he lost control pulling over and hit the cruiser.

None of the officers, or police dog inside the car, were injured as a result, though it caused 4000 dollars worth of damage.

On Thursday night, police stopped two cars on Thickwood and gave them 400 dollar tickets for Engaging in a Race on a Highway.

An hour later, police saw two more cars racing on 63, and stopped one of them, handing out a court summons for going 151 in a 70.

Earlier that night, a car was stopped going 182 in a 70.

And a police dog turned up 3.3 grams of meth during another traffic stop, which police say resulted in charges.
