Cuthbert & Phaneuf Engaged!

It’s a marriage made at the redline.

Canadian actress and hockey fanatic Elisha Cuthbert and Toronto Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf are now engaged, according to the Toronto Star. The couple, who started dating in May 2008, celebrated their big news the New Glasgow Lobster restaurant in P.E.I. on Sunday night.

The Star reported that the restaurant bragged on their Facebook wall: “Last night we hosted a private party for Toronto Maple Leaf’s Cptn Dion Phaneuf where he and Canadian actress Elisha Cuthbert announced their engagement! A nice surprise for all their guests! Congrats to them both and LOVE the ring!!!!”

A source told celebrity magazine US Weekly: “Elisha looked very happy and pleased. She was showing off her ring to her family and the wait staff. The female wait staff were gushing about the ring saying it was ‘quite impressive’ and ‘huge.’ At one point, Dion and Elisha both got up an gave a speech and thanked everyone for being there and celebrating this exciting time with them.”

Cuthbert, 29, is best known for her recurring role in the long-running TV show 24, as Jack Bauer’s daughter, Kim, and is currently starring in Happy Endings. In recent years, she has become equally well-known for her high-profile romances with hockey’s he-men — including bad boy former New York Ranger Sean Avery.

The actress has also appeared in many movies including Old School, The Girl Next Door, Love Actually and House of Wax. Phaneuf, 27, is entering his third season as captain of the Leafs.
