Deloitte: Oil sands must offer more than just big money

The Deloitte consulting firm says oil sands companies need to do more than just offer big money to solve the local labour shortage.

The Calgary Herald reports the major firm is recommending that companies collaborate in the same way they’ve been cooperating on reducing tailings ponds.

The firm says 52 thousand workers will be required in the oil sands in 2015; and companies need to cooperate first on transportation to improve productivity.

Energy Minister Ted Morton says the government will lobby the feds for more temporary foreign workers and try to lure unemployed U.S. tradespeople through NAFTA.
