Driver upgraded to stable condition after crash

A 45-year-old man was identified as the driver behind the wheel of a tragic crash north of Fort McMurray.

Wood Buffalo RCMP believe the Saskatchewan man hit a parked vehicle on an access road near the Syncrude site, at about 2 a.m. yesterday.

He was airlifted to an Edmonton hospital with life threatening injuries, but has since been upgraded to stable condition. His family is with him at the hospital.

The passenger was a 27-year-old man from Edmonton. He was pronounced dead on scene. Police notified his family about the death.
