A fire yesterday afternoon has destroyed one home in downtown Fort McMurray.

Crews were called around 2:00 p.m. to a home on Hardin Street between Gordon Ave. and Amrick Ave. after smoke and flames could be seen by neighbours and near by businesses.

Neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution as crews tried to put out the fire.

“The main house was a right off and a neighbouring home had some smoke and water damage…crews had the fire knocked down and under control within an hour,” said Regional Emergency Services Deputy Chief of Operations Brad Grainger.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.

Hardin St. was closed for several hours between Fraser Ave. and Amrick Ave. while crews put out the fire.
