Environment ministers see monitoring progress on tour

The federal and provincial environment ministers say they’re seeing good progress on the new oil sands monitoring system.

The two toured some of the new monitoring stations yesterday as part of the system will which monitor land, water, and air in the region.

They also toured a new Environment Canada station that’s using a laser to measure particles in the atmosphere.

Kent says it’s clear that the joint plan is on track for full implementation by 2015.

McQueen says the short-term developments are setting the stage for a state of the art environmental program once everything is phased in over the next three years.

The plan was originally announced back in February.
