Federal Conservatives looking at new marijuana legislation

Canada’s Minister of Justice says the government is figuring out whether to change legislation on marijuana possession.

Peter McKay says the change would give police the ability to ticket anyone caught with a small amount instead of charging them.

It’s a change that’s been called for by police chiefs, and one that McKay says his staff has been looking at other jurisdictions about.

As it stands now, anyone caught with under 30 grams of pot can be fined up to 1000 dollars and face up to six months of jail time.
