The federal government is considering a giant fence to save the caribou in the region.
Environment Canada released its plan to help save the endangered animals last Friday.
It says a 1,500 square kilometre habitat pen was studied by an industry group last spring, and would be technically feasible.
It says it could act like a sort of lifeboat for the herds in the region until industry can actually restore their habitat.
It’s estimated there are only about 3,000 caribou left in Alberta.
