Feds increasing pipeline safety

There’s now tougher regulations on pipeline safety.

Under Ottawa’s changes, pipeline companies will be accountable for all costs and damages that stem from oil spills, whether it’s found at fault or not.

Pipeline operators will also be forced to have a minimum of $1-billion to pay for the cost of a cleanup.

The Natural Resources Minister says this makes sure taxpayers aren’t paying for the cleanup of a possible spill.
