The RMWB is inviting feedback from residents on plans for the first permanent public art installation in the region through an online survey and upcoming public engagement sessions.

There are six design concepts that have been chosen by the Public Art Selection Panel and residents are being asked to identify their top three.

The Panel, which is made up of subject matter experts and local community members, will review the top three design concepts identified by the public and determine the final design based on feasibility and merit.

The RMWB said in a release the new art piece will energize MacDonald Drive and create a unique landmark that showcases Wood Buffalo’s vibrant culture, rich heritage and natural beauty.

Residents can complete the online survey between Nov. 30 and Dec. 6, or attend an upcoming public engagement session.

Sessions:

  • December 2-6, 8:30 a.m.-9 p.m., McMurray Experience
  • December 2, 2-8 p.m., Suncor Community Leisure Centre
  • December 5, 4-7 p.m., Jubilee Plaza
  • December 6. 1-4 p.m., Peter Pond Mall

The Public Art Committee held engagement sessions in June 2015 to identify the public’s preferred location and style for a piece of public art, which lead to the current site selection and design intent.

The RMWB said that using art to create a public gathering place will connect people in the community, further reinforcing the Regional Municipality of Wood-Buffalo’s 2015-2017 Strategic Plan commitment to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
