Former NHLer joins environmentalists against Northern Gateway

A former NHL defenceman has added his voice to the environmental debate against the proposed Nothern Gateway pipeline.

Scott Niedermayer has joined forces with the World Wildlife Fund and Coastal First Nations in order to oppose the $5.5-billion Enbridge project.

The Globe and Mail reports that the group of activists which also includes a former Vancouver city councillor and the grand chief of the Tl’azt’en First Nation will be speaking at different forums about their concerns over the project.

Raised in Cranbrook, BC, Niedermayer told the newspaper that the pipeline would endanger the Great Bear Region, which is a rain forest along the BC coast.
