Fort McMurray FireFit Team grabs gold at National Championship

Some of the best suited in Canada to save you from a burning building is right here in Wood Buffalo.

The Fort McMurray FireFit Team is won gold in the Men’s Relay and Mized NxG2 during a national competition in Quebec. They also placed third in the Women’s Relay, fourth in Team, and sixth in Men’s Individual.

“Each person has put in hundreds of hours of their time this year and it’s a great feeling when you get the ultimate result from it. We couldn’t have done it without support from management and our sponsors,” said team leader Fraser O’Neill in a news release. “Moving forward we’ll focus on keeping up with the competition and making our team even better.”

Eight members of the team competed from September 10 – 14. They’re also returning home with medals across the board after the Montreal Regionals earlier that week. The competition mimics real-life tasks and situations on the job.
