Fort McMurray International Airport slated to re-open June 10

The Fort McMurray International Airport announced commercial  flights are  tentatively scheduled to resume  June 10.

Anyone who has a flight booked prior to June 10 is advised to contact their airlines for re-booking information.

“YMM is the gateway to our community. My colleagues and I look forward to reopening following the devastating wildfires,” said Scott Clements, Fort McMurray Airport Authority President & CEO. “Safety is our first priority and while every effort will be made to adhere to this opening date, residents are reminded that this will only occur if conditions for re-entry are safe.”

The Airport Authority said the re-opening of the airport is dependent on several factors including the airspace requirements of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry to continue to battle the wildfire and any delays for the voluntary re-entry to Fort McMurray date.

A list of food and transportation services available at the airport will be released closer to the re-opening date.

“The FMAA is indebted to the brave men and women who worked tirelessly around the clock to protect the airport infrastructure which has allowed us to support the efforts of emergency first responders since the fire began,” said Clements. “We look forward to reopening to the public, and welcoming residents and visitors back to our region.”

Residents will be able to return to Fort McMurray on a voluntary basis beginning June 1.
