Cenovus has hit first oil at an expansion site at its Foster Creek oilsands project.
The company expects to produce another 5,000 barrels per day at Phase F, and it will ramp up to full capacity with 12 to 18 months. In total, it adds 30 thousands barrels a day to the site.
Cenovus didn’t say how much it costs, but said three expansion of its sites are at least $35,000 per barrel of capacity.
Two other expansions are expected to be finished late next year. Altogether it will bring Foster Creek’s total capacity to 210,000 barrels per day.
