General Electric to design processed water recycler for Sunshine Oilsands

The company that makes dishwashers and laundry machines is now looking to recycle processed oil sands water.

Sunshine Oilsands has selected General Electric to make the technology for its West Ells SAG-D project 60 kilometres north of town.

It will treat the oil sands processed water to produced a distilled water suitable to go back into its drum boilers.

Sunshine Oilsands says by using the process it will recycle 98% of its waste water.

The Hong Kong oil sands company expects first steam from its West Ells project  in the third quarter of this year.

It’s first phase will produce 5,000 barrels per day followed by an approved expansion for a capacity of 10,000 bpd early next year.
