Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Syncrude have announced the 10th nominee for the Women of Inspiration series of 2014-2015.

Angela Ross was born and raised in Fort McMurray along with her five siblings.

She earned her journey person trade certificate as a millwright – demonstrating her sense of adventure in entering a male dominated trade.

Once Ross gave birth to her four children her goals changed, and she decided to pursue a career in human services.

Her drive to help others led her to training in Indigenous Addictions Counselling from the Nechi Institute in St. Albert.

She excelled in her courses and would graduate with a Social Work diploma from Keyano College.

Ross has also completed programs dealing with Elder Abuse, Cultural Violence, and Residential Schools.

In her spare time Ross raises money for the Nistawyou Friendship Centre, helps with the Salvation Army Christmas initiatives and works with the Boys and Girls Club, she’s also involved in the local United Way campaign.

Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Syncrude will honour Ross and 11 other nominees at the Women of Inspiration Celebration which takes place on Jun. 20, 2015.

The Women of Inspiration is a partnership between Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and Syncrude with a goal to recognize women throughout Wood Buffalo who inspire others, break barriers and help create change.
