Golden Buffalo Development to submit design permit application for skyscraper in next two months

A Vancouver-based company, Golden Buffalo Development has plans to bring a 489 foot skyscraper to downtown Fort McMurray.

The building would include a 200-room hotel along with retail and office space.

The company’s President Donald Wilson says they’ve made lots of progress.

“We’ve got a number of significant retailers that’ve expressed interest. We have a couple of major oil companies that we’re looking to to take up some of the office space, and we’ve had a number of major hotel players talk to us about the hotel,” he said.

Wilson says this has been in the works for years, and is optimistic in bringing a proposal forward soon.

“We’ve had very good, positive meetings with the city. We received significant input on modifications for basically how we design the building. There’s always give and take and back and forth with the city staff on this sort of thing. I think we’re fairly close to actually making the design permit application,” he said.

He says he expects to make a formal application to the city in the next two months, featuring the proposed site at Franklin and Hardin.

The proposed plans also feature a large medical centre with walk-in clinic and helipad on top of the building, as well as a theatre and underground parking.
