Gov't warned of possible caribou disappearance

A government memo obtained by Postmedia shows that caribou populations in this region could completely disappear.

The memo from last September warns the environment minister that companies will take up to fifty years to replace the old growth forest where the animals live.

It says at that rate, it could be too little, too late.

Environmental groups are calling on the government to stop industry expansion and enforce the endangered specis law; but the government has refused because caribou aren’t threatened on the national level.
