May 5, 2011 at 5:49 am #41449Thanks its out of Calgary just wondering if anyone else has used them as a security option? Kinda just happened really fast and then the guys were at the door to install. Now it seems weird. But they make it sound like a good deal installing for free and then a monthly payment of $60 a mth. Which is probably high and will pay off their “free” installation.
May 5, 2011 at 5:59 am #41451$720 per year ! ?
You have gone ahead with it, so the only thing you can do now is, read your service agreement and the small print carefully and make sure you understand what you have signed for.
May 5, 2011 at 6:05 am #41453I know i feel stupid now…good sales guy. It says buyers right to cancel
You may cancel this contract from the day you enter into the contract until 10 days after you receive a copy of the contract. You do not need a reason to cancel.
To cancel, you must give notice of cancellation at teh address in this contract. You must give notice of cancellation by a method that will allow you to prove that you gave notice, including registered mail, fax or by personal delivery.
I’m not sure why I agreed and now i feel sick about it. So hopefully I can get them to coem get their stuff.
May 5, 2011 at 6:11 am #41455Heads up to everyone anyway they are going door to door. Sounds really good… i didn’t even really say yes and then they were ready to install.
May 5, 2011 at 10:40 am #41457We turned them away before they could get 2 words out of their mouth! We did sign up with another company that went door to door a few years back, however we were actually in the process of doing our research and figuring out TOTAL cost over the term of the contract between monthly fees and install costs not just yearly cost of fees. Completely happy with our service.
May 5, 2011 at 1:42 pm #41459I’ve had more than a few run ins in the last 40 years with door to door salesmen, some of them quite animated. (they used to be more common) I may have missed a few bargains but anything I needed could be found in a store or the yellow pages.
May 5, 2011 at 1:56 pm #41461One of them came to my door last week. Did his best sales tactics to win me over. Didn’t work. I caught him on so many things. First of all, he tried to tell me my system was outdated. This is very misleading information on how the present it to you. Your security system is designed to contact the dispatching company that provides you the service in case of an alarm. This company is no different. I have magnetic, motion & fire alarm sensors throughout my house. They say, their system can be activated/deactivated with a blackberry/iphone app. Who cares? I arm my system when I leave the house and disarm it when I return.
The best tactic he tried to pawn off on me was the response time of the police. Brought up several scenarios of where the police showed up within minutes. Unfortunately, these scenarios were not in Fort McMurray nor could he provide me with any data on the responsiveness of our local police. I already know what the response time is here. It’s 15-30 minutes.
He tried to pressure me a bit, saying this was a one time deal only. This is when I told him to get off my property.

I knocked on your door in February, selling some authentic looking snow and you didn’t answer the door. You missed a really good bargain!!!
May 5, 2011 at 4:20 pm #41465The guys were pushy but also overbearing. He stopped by our house and told us cops are always in our neighborhood. No they aren’t, I am home in daytime. Also he pushes his way in closing my door saying its cold out and then tries to take his jacket and shoes off. Not happening. He made so many goof ups in his selling tactic it was funny. We had adt for years and had no problem.

Like I said, read the contract carefully. I should imagine the 10 day cancellation only applies BEFORE they install.
If you had agreed to have it installed in 20 days time, you would have had 10 days to think about it.

The sensors the various companies use are pretty much the same between each other, and there have been few advancements in them other than wireless. The brains have changed, but like spectre said they add a few more gadgets that add nothing to functionality of the actual system.
The only response time any monitoring company should be saying ANYTHING about is their own. How long does it take their system to call them? What are the steps they then take before dispatching to the RCMP? What is their priority sequence? Anything else is out of their control.
And fwiw $60 a month seems very very high, I didn’t think another company would use Altech pricing when coming to town.
May 5, 2011 at 4:45 pm #41471Is this security system buy-in a trend? Or do the majority of people genuinely fear this much for their lives and property that they are buyign those systems on such a regular basis?
May 5, 2011 at 5:49 pm #41473There were no doubt a few quirks I did like. Like the cellular connection instead of a LAN line and the call center being able to talk to you over the intercom. But the sales tactics and the guy repeating the same stuff every two minutes turned me off from it. I quite like my Pinnacle system and dealing with ADT for $37/mth. Just two days ago, my smoke alert went off and ADT was calling within 2 minutes of the alarm. Then two hours later, they called back to verify the smoke was clear and they reset my alarm panel. Just as good of service as any in my book.
