Fort McMurray Oil Barons head coach Gord Thibodeau has named third-year forward Harry Hendrix an alternate captain for this season.
Hendrix admits he was gunning for it.
“It is something that I did some thinking about during the off-season,” he said. “Throughout my whole hockey career I’ve liked to think of myself as a bit of a leader, so it’s something that I almost prepped myself for coming into this season.”
Hendrix says it’s an especially important role with so many rookies this year.
“We have some responsibility to show these younger guys what the organization expects, what Gord expects obviously,” he said. “We always have to show consistency with our play and our attitude so that the younger guys can follow us.”
The Barons open their season Friday night hosting Drayton Valley.
