Holy Trinity to give athletic opportunity to all

Holy Trinity High School is launching a new program to give more students the opportunity to get involved in sports.

It’s called the Knights and Angels program, and Principal Lucy Moore says it’ll level the playing field for all of their students.

“We have students at Holy Trinity who can’t afford some of the small things that you think everyone can afford, like 75 dollars for a dance costume,” she said. “They opt out of participating because they can’t afford it.”

Physed teacher and former CFLer Kwame Osei says he’s seen the need for a program like this firsthand, while coaching the school football team.

“There were some kids that weren’t even going to come out, because they couldn’t afford it,” he recalled. “But, fortunately, we had a little bit of savings for the kids – that was an eye-opener right away.”

The program will help kids out with those costs, with the money coming from fundraisers.

The first one will be next month, when Osei brings three CFL players to the school on Tuesday the 4th.

It’s called KACH Night, featuring Akeem Foster and Cauchy Muamba of the BC Lions, and Henoc Muamba of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

There’ll be a dinner, silent auction, and cash bar, as well as private reception for VIPs.

Tickets are available at the Suncor Energy Centre for the Performing Arts box office, or by calling 780-792-0012 ex. 2.
