Huskies Report

It was another strong weekend for Huskies sports with both the men’s basketball and volleyball teams climbing in the CCAA rankings.

The Men’s Basketball team (11-1) extended their winning streak to 11 games with back to back wins over the King’s University Eagles (5-7) and moved up two spots in the CCAA rankings to number six in Canada.

The Huskies dumped the Eagles 103-89 Friday night with six players reaching double digits. On Saturday the Huskies again dominated winning 79-49 with Blake Gallatly leading all scorers with a season high 17 points.

It was a good weekend as well for the women’s squad, picking up back to back wins for the first time this season. The Huskies (4-8) thumped the Eagles (0-12) 75-18 and 83-49. The women have now won three of their last four games. Kika Greenlee had another monster weekend putting up 17 points on Friday night before record 32 in Saturday’s win to go along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals.

The volleyball teams had opposite weekends with the men sweeping a two game set with the Eagles while the women lost both their games. The men (9-3) defeated the Eagles (8-4) 3-2 and 3-0 while the women (7-5) were unable to win a set losing both matches against the Eagles (12-0) 3-0.

The men sit tied for first in the north division and moved up three spots in the CCAA rankings to 10th.

The men’s hockey team (9-6-1-2) is now unbeaten in six games after hammering the Briercrest Clippers (2-14-0-0) by the same 7-1 score  in both games this past weekend. Ben Kinshella picked up two goals and an assist in his first game of the season Friday night. Levi George and David Nippard also had three point nights in the win. On Saturday, Nippard potted another two goals and now leads the Huskies in scoring with 19 points in 18 games.

The men have climbed their way into 4th place in the ACAC standings.

All of the Huskies teams are now off until the new year. The men’s hockey team returns to action Friday January 8th at home against the NAIT Ooks. The basketball teams also return to action at home on the 8th as they host the King’s University Eagles while the Volleyball teams return to action the following week on January 15th on the road against the Grand Prairie Wolves.
