Idaho protest stalls oil sands delivery

A transport truck heading up to the oil sands has been stopped in Idaho this week by protestors staging blockades.

It’s happening on the same Highway 12 that stopped an Imperial Oil shipment back in 2011.

Two years ago, it had to break up its oversized load into smaller pieces and move it up the interstate, which can’t handle oversized loads because of overpasses.

The company transporting the load, Omega Morgan, hasn’t said which oil sands company it’s making a delivery to.

Aboriginal leaders say they’re against transporting oversized loads through reserve lands, along with the perceived conversion of the wild and scenic area into a high and wide industrial corridor.
