Imperial Oil has withdrawn a highly contested plan to truck huge loads of equipment to their Kearl Oilsands Project through a mountain pass on the Idaho/Montana border.

Environmentalists are worried the scenic route would become an indrustrial corridor, and fought the plan in court. According to a court filing on Wednesday, the Montana Department of Transportation would not be conducting any more analyses of the megaload plan, because Imperial had pulled the application for the permits.

Imperial spokesman Pius Rolheiser says the final load of equipment for the Kearl project arrived in Canada on the 11th of this month.
