Industry spending less on machinery and equipment: report

The energy sector is expected to spend less on machinery and equipment this year.

Statistics Canada says spending in the mining, quarrying and oil and gas sector will drop about 19 per cent this year, to $67.9 billion.

It’s part of overall wallet tightening on machinery and equipment, which fell about 5 per cent from last year, with a total bill of $251.8 billion.

On the up side, the transportation and warehousing sector is expected to spend more, partly because of pipeline transportation.
