Inter Pipeline to expand capacity of Kearl's Polaris Pipeline system

The Kearl oilsands project is getting a boost in pipeline capacity on its Polaris Pipeline system.

The Imperial Oil project is getting a 45-million dollar investment from the Inter Pipeline Fund, that will see the pipeline capacity more than triple.

The two firms have a transportation deal, that Imperial has exercised an option on to double capacity from 60,000 barrels per day to 120,000.

Inter Pipeline says it’s planning to expand pipeline capacity by re-commissioning three pump stations that were taken out of service two years ago.

Once completed in 2015, the the Polaris pipeline will have enough capacity for 165,000 bpd.
