Hearings on Shell’s Jackpine oil sands mine expansion could be delayed.

The Athabasca-Chipewyan First Nation has asked the federal-provincial joint review panel to stop the hearings while it files a constitutional challenge with the Alberta Court of Appeal.

The First Nation has said that the expansion violates its constitutional rights to use the land for traditional purposes.

Shell and the provincial government argue that this would lead to an unfair and lengthy delay.
