Dr. Kevin Nagel has resigned from his position as Keyano College President and Chief Executive Office effective immediately.

The college announced his resignation in a press release Tuesday.

Dr. Nagel arrived at Keyano in the spring of 2011 after previously working as the Dean of the JR Shaw School of Business and Faculty of Undergraduate Studies at NAIT.

“Leanne and I have really enjoyed the community and I have very much appreciated the opportunity to work with the many community and college stakeholders and board members over the course of the past five years. We have developed many great friendships here and look forward to continuing our work together as our paths may variously cross in the future” said Dr. Nagel.

During his time at Keyano, Dr. Nagel helped grow the college both in academics and throughout the community.

“The Board of Governors would like to thank Dr. Nagel for his contributions to the College and the wider region,” said Keyano College Board of Governors Chair Kara Flynn. “Under his leadership, Keyano was able to expand its academic programming to include a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, the delivery of the final two years of the Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education as well as a number of simulation and safety training programs. These programs will continue to benefit our community and its stakeholders for years to come.”

Dr. Nagel had an integral part in the negotiations that led to a Memorandum of Understanding with both the Fort McMurray Public and Catholic School Districts and also, the Memorandum of Action signed by seven other northern colleges and the University of Alberta to allow for greater collaboration in the future.

Dr. Nagel had many highlights during his time at Keyano College including being named one of Alberta’s 50 most influential people by Alberta Venture in 2012 and receiving the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, for service, excellence, and community involvement, in 2013.

The appointment of an interim President will be made by the Board of Governors in the coming weeks.
