Keyano College raises $465-thousand in annual fundraiser

The Keyano College Foundation’s Gala Discovery raised $465-thousand dollars at its 31st-annual fundraiser.

It is put on by a mixture of volunteers from the college and community, sponsors and staff.

Dr. Kevin Nagel, President & CEO, Keyano College says that this money directly affects the students in a lot of ways.

“We just finished building a new campus in Fort Chipewyan, we were able to make a donation there.  Student support, student scholorshipd, we had over 200 scholarships last year that we were able to give away so that we can start building that skills capacity here in Fort McMurray, absolutely critical”

Country and pop artist Lee Ann Rimes was a featured guest along with Canadian Juno winners, and CCMA Group of the Year, Hey Romeo, who entertained the 1,200 guests.

The Syncrude Sports and Wellness Centre was transformed with nautical décor.

There were foods from around the globe to choose from, along with drinks, auction items to bid on, music, creating a real sense of community.

Some of the auction items included a $16,500 meet and greet with Lee Ann Rimes, and a NASA package that went for $14,500.

Nagel thinks that events like this are critical for the community

“This type of money really goes to the responsivness of Keyano College in terms of being able to deliver the types of programs that the community is looking to deliver…so this is really critical for us”

There was a 100-feet wide screen backdrop that made its debut here in Fort McMurray.

With the title of being the biggest in North America.

Keyano is already telling you to mark your calendars for November 2, 2013, and to keep your ears open for more details.
