Keyano names interim President and CEO

Keyano College has found its replacement for the recently departed Kevin Nagel.

In a press release this morning the school named Tracy Edwards as its interim President and Chief Executive Officer effective Monday, Feb. 22.

“For over 25 years, Dr. Edwards has been pursuing her passion of service to higher education,” said Kara Flynn, Chair of the Keyano College Board of Governors. “The environment has changed in the region, and we are confident that Dr. Edwards has the experience and leadership qualities to guide the College during this time, while still remaining focused on our core service to our students and the community.”

The newly appointed leader of Keyano held a similar position at Lethbridge College from 2005-2012 where she was responsible for 15,000 students and over 800 staff.

“Under her leadership, the college launched a new student residence, significantly grew institutional reserves, changed institutional governance to be more collaborative and inclusive, and progressed a new Trades, Technology and Innovation Centre resulting in $55 million in funding from Alberta,” wrote Keyano boasting about the achievements of its new hire.

She was named a YWCA Woman of Distinction, holds a key to the City of Lethbridge and received the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration, Alberta Chapter.

“I am delighted to join Keyano College as the interim President and CEO,” said Edwards. “While I know much has changed in the last 12 months, I still see this as a community filled with opportunity and a great place to call home. I look forward to working with our community partners to deliver a high quality educational experience that will contribute to the strength and sustainability of Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo.”

Edwards was most recently the President and CEO of Lakeland College in Vermillion, Alberta and holds a Doctor in Education from the University of Texas at Austin, along with a Master of Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology both form St. Mary’s University in Halifax.

Keyano will introduce Edwards to local media at 3 p.m. Friday.
