Keyano says it is actively pursuing the Campus Development Master Plan which a spokesperson says is not on hold, contrary to reports from other local media.

The college has requested funding for the project from the provincial government, prepared a loan application, advanced the design of new student accommodations and asked for developers to submit proposals for building the project.

“We have also moved forward with detailed planning for the Keyano theatre expansion with financial assistance from the RMWB and continue to work with the municipality with respect to rezoning our Clearwater campus lands on Franklin Avenue,” said Matthew Harrison in an email.

He said this is an extensive and multi-year project that is an important part of the College’s future.

“(The project) aligns with our Comprehensive Institutional Plan to: Advance institutional sustainability, Enhance the student experience, and Pursue academic excellence. We also think that this is a good time to move forward with infrastructure projects in order to achieve significant construction related savings as well as to support our local contractors and the construction sector,” said Harrison.

He also said the College will keep exploring ways to make sure it is completed and will work with its partners, stakeholders, and different levels of government.
