New MusicThe Black Crowes website www.blackcrowes.com is streaming the new single from the band's forthcoming album Warpaint, which is due out March 4th. The song is called Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution and has a very retro feel to it; reminiscent in many ways of old Rod Stewart and the Faces.

ROCK 979While the rumour mill continues to churn about a possible Led Zeppelin reunion tour, now Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason has opened the door to Floyd getting back together again. Mason told a British radio station that Live 8 "showed that the door can be opened” for future Pink Floyd reunions. Wright went on to say “If there was a suitable reason or things change a bit in the next year or two and everybody suddenly thinks, ‘Well, actually, I really would like to do that’ then I think it’ll happen,” So on the basis of this statement, and the never ending hint dropping about a possible Zeppelin tour, Breaking Rock News would like to up the stakes even more to what would, without a doubt be a classic rock fan's ultimate fantasy. Forget dieing and going to heaven, what about Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd on tour...together??!! It could never happen...or could it?

It's kind of hard to believe that it's been 20 years since U2 released their landmark album "The Joshua Tree." Billboard reports that to mark the occasion, the band is reissuing the set in four different incarnations on Nov. 20. The album will be available as a remastered single CD, a 2-CD set, a 2-CD/1-DVD collectible box and a double-vinyl package. The single-disc will be housed in a jewel case, but the 2-CD set comes in a hard back case. The 2-CD/1-DVD version has a base and lid to accommodate the discs as well as five portfolio prints. Band members have contributed new liner notes for the package. There will also be rare material on the expanded editions, including demos, alternate versions and B-sides. The DVD is apparently a 1987 show at the Paris Hippodrome, as well as the documentary "Outside It's America." "The Joshua Tree" was U2's breakthrough album, and sent them to the stratosphere of rock royalty. The album and two singles "With or Without You" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts

Linkin Park and Daughtry are tied with a couple artists we don't care about for the most nominations for the upcoming American Music Awards.  Linkin Park is up for Favorite Rock Band, Favorite Alternative Artist and Favorite Rock Album for "Minutes to Midnight".  Daughtry is nominated for Favorite Rock Album, Favorite Breakthrough Artist and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist.  The award show will be held in L.A. next month.  In the meantime, for the first time EVER, music fans will be able to choose which nominated artists ultimately win the coveted awards. This year members of the public can vote for nominated artists by going online and voting at ama.abc.com

British billionaire Sir Richard Branson galloped into the heart of Calgary today to announce plans to bring the Virgin Music Festival to the city next summer The brash Branson — chairman of the Virgin Group of Companies — arrived at Fort Calgary on a horse drawn chuckwagon, donning a white cowboy hat and western attire.

“I claim this Virgin land,” said Branson, as he jumped off his wagon and planted a flag, displaying the Virgin logo on it, firmly in Fort Calgary grass.

The festival is slated to take place June 21 through 22, 2008, at Fort Calgary.

The 57-year-old businessman is known for his risk-taking lifestyle which includes piloting balloons, boats, planes and scaling buildings.

Branson first brought the concert series to Canada in 2006 – Toronto and Vancouver have played host to acts such as Bjork, The Killers, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Police.

While ticket prices and the lineup for the Calgary festival will not be announced until January of next year, Branson says because the festival has already been “tested out on Toronto and Vancouver” Virgin is in a position to bring “big international” acts to Calgary.

Branson said Canadian and local Calgary acts will not be forgotten — during the Toronto festival in September about 20 of the more than 60 acts booked were local to Ontario.

“My son’s a rock musician and still determined to get onto a big stage, so he’s thinking about becoming a Calgarian to try to get on stage here,” said Branson laughing.

About 20,000 spectators are expected to attend the festival which will bring about 40 acts to Calgary.

The Virgin Festival will fall directly during the same time frame that Calgary’s grass roots alt-rock festival, Sled Island takes place.

Kenn Bell, co-founder of the Future Alberta Rock Movement (FARM), a music promotion company, said he hopes Virgin will work with local agencies such as Sled Island, FARM and other promoters.

“We had Sled come on the scene last year, we have the Junos coming to Calgary next year, a lot of buzz is being created around this city,” said Bell.

“It’s great but I think it’s important that they (Virgin) work with local promoters and agents here to protect local acts... if it’s a prolonged event, the Virgin Festival could be a really good thing for local bands and artists.”

Branson was also in Calgary to speak at the Power Within conference at the convention centre.

ROCK 979Previously we reported that The Beatles solo work is now online, with the addition of George Harison albums. Now Breaking Rock News has learned that Led Zeppelin is finally offering its catalog to digital-music fans. The New York Times reports that the shift by Zeppelin "highlights the clout of digital sales in the music market as mass merchants reduce the shelf space devoted to compact discs." The official announcement is expected today, and the band is said to be first to make its songs available as ringtones on the US Verizon Wireless network. There is no word as to whether the service will be initially available in other countries, however digital song downloads are expected to be available through online digital-music services, including iTunes, on Nov. 13. The band is to receive $60 million in exchange for rights to put the music online. Led Zeppelin are perform in concert together next month for the first time in 19 years as part of a memorial tribute to Ahmet Ertegun, the co-founder of Atlantic Records, which released the band’s albums. The Nov. 26 concert coincides with the release of a two-disc hits collection. Robert Plant is also releasing a new album he recorded with blue-grass artist Alison Krauss
