The Mayor and Council raised their glass and toasted exceptional citizens. last night.
The Toast of Champions recognized eight individuals of nineteen nominations.
Mayor Melissa Blake says that recognizing citizens is important.
“So when were able to take and shine a spotlight on the folks that have been nominated by their friends, their relative, whoever it might be, it does do a purpose, it brings them to our attention but it also gives recognition from those who care most about them for what they do regularly.”
Blake says it was once the ‘Civic Award’ that included categories.
She thinks the Toast of Champions is here to stay.
“The purpose is just to really give the recognition to all of those who, independent of what their achievments have been, acknowledge the work that they do in our region to make life better for us all.”
Councillor Dave Kirschner was among the winners for his thirty years of contributions to the community.
