According to Alberta Agriculture and Forestry 18 new wildfires were started Thursday due to lightning strikes.
There are 21 total active wildfires in the Fort McMurray area, 12 are being held, five are out of control and four are under control.
Of the wildfires started Thursday 13 are less than one hectare in size and the other five range from 3-30 hectares.
None of the wildfires are currently threatening any communities.
There are 72 firefighters, 16 helicopters and five air tankers battling these new fires.
“The Beast” is still classified as being held.
