Major flooding, evacuations throughout southwestern Alberta

There are a dozen towns and cities that are under either a state of local emergency or a flash flood alert.

Calgary has evacuated six areas – the Misson, Elbow Park, Stanley Park, Roxboro, Rideau and Discovery Ridge were all evacuated this afternoon.

Emergency crews told those affected residents to expect to be displaced for about 72 hours.

The entire town of High Water was evacuated earlier in the day, and reportedly has many parts underwater.

Other places that are either in states of emergency or evacuation include Canmore, Okotoks, Lethbridge, Bragg Creek and Turner Valley.

Currently, highway closures are in effect for parts of highways 1, 1A, 93, 22, 66, and 40 because of flooding and mudslides.
