A 34-year-old Fort McMurray man is facing firearm charges for allegedly pointing a shotgun at another vehicle while driving north on Highway 63 at the Hardin Street Intersection early Thursday afternoon.

Police were called around 12:10 p.m. and immediately responded, following the driver onto Franklin Avenue.

RCMP said they then used vehicle emergency equipment to stop the pick-up truck. They then arrested the driver and officers seized a loaded double barrel sawed off shot gun from inside the truck.

The man remains in police custody but has not yet been formally charged.

No shots were fired and no one was injured in the incident.

Callers to MyMcMurray reported as many as nine RCMP vehicles responding to the incident and said they saw both a newer pickup and an older SUV stopped by police.

Wood Buffalo RCMP said the investigation is ongoing and they’re asking anyone who saw anything or who may know anything about the events leading up to the incident to please contact them at 780-788-4000.
