Mayor calls for municipality to become federal riding

The commission re-drawing the federal ridings in Alberta heard a pretty common message at a hearing in Fort McMurray last night.
Wood Buffalo wants its own MP.
Both Mayor Melissa Blake and the local Conservative association called for the municipality to become a federal riding, despite the federal census showing fewer than 70 thousand people here.
Each riding is supposed to have around 100-thousand, but Blake says the municipal census and projected growth for the area mean the region has the numbers to justify it.
Right now the Fort McMurray–Athabasca riding that the city is part of is one of the largest by area in the country.
