Mayor Melissa Blake announced that she will be running for her fourth consecutive term as Mayor.

“I’m very excited for our future and I still want to have my hand in that,” she continues, “so the answer to the question that I’ve been trying to evade for so long is that yes, absolutely game on for me, if people are willing to put me back one more term, I’d really thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to serve.”

She was re-elected in October 2010 as the top elected official in the Municipality after serving 2 consecutive terms as Mayor and before that as a Councillor.

She says her main platform item is about land acquisition from the provincial government.

“That’s what dictates whether we can have more affordable housing, more businesses and commercial enterprise, even the ability to accommodate some of the non-profit sector,” she adds, “these things are all challenged because we don’t have the land supply that’s affordable for people or businesses.”

Anyone interested in running in the 2013 general election for Mayor, Council and/or School Board Trustees can now get the Information Package on the city’s website, and there will be a candidate orientation training session.

October 21st is election day.
