McIver apologizes for marching in event hosted by homophobic organization

PC leadership candidate Ric McIver says he’s sorry for not doing his homework after participating in the March for Jesus, held by a group that’s published anti-gay material.

He says he no longer supports the Street Church, the organization behind the march that McIver had supported in the past.

“There’s one thing to have strong beliefs, it’s quite another to publish, to broadcast through the internet, ugly, negative, nasty, un-true things that I in no way believe or support,” he said.

On the Church’s website, it compares gay people to minions of Satan.

He says he marched in last weekend’s March for Jesus thinking its goal was to be supportive.

“In my view it sounds like it should be a positive event, turns out there’s an ugly website attached to it that I’m just angry about. And you know what, people that are angry at me for drawing attention to that, I understand that,” he said.

He says he wants the group to remove his name and photos from its website.
