More home sifting services being offered for those who lost homes in the wildfire

The RMWB is stepping up sifting services for families and home owners who haven’t yet had the opportunity to search through their destroyed homes in hopes of finding memories and important heirlooms in the ashes.

Director of Emergency Management, Bob Couture, said they’re also apologizing to the residents whose expectations were not met by the volunteer Team Rubicon services.

“We acknowledge that the sifting program has not met residents’ expectations and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and frustration that this has caused,” said Couture. “We have identified the internal challenges that resulted in us missing appointments and failing to return calls, and have taken the necessary steps to rectify the situation.”

Team Rubicon leaves tomorrow and staff from the REOC centre will be leading a team to continue sifting up to July 1st.

“The Municipality and REOC thank Team Rubicon for their support and generous efforts that resulted in approximately 700 properties being sifted to date,” the RMWB said in a release.

If you want to arrange for a property sifting appointment with REOC, call the PULSE line at 780-743-7000.
