The leader of the federal New Democrats is sticking with his assertion that the oilsands are taking a toll on jobs in manufacturing.

The National Post reports that Thomas Mulcair is dismissing the criticism he’s been facing from the premiers of Alberta, BC, and Saskatchewan since telling the CBC that the price of oil was driving up the value of the Canadian dollar, which in turn is making manufactured goods too expensive for American buyers.

The Post also says the NDP leader called the provincial leaders Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s “messangers” in the Opposition’s fight with the governing Tories over the issue.
