The Regional Recreation Corporation has decided that the Northside Twin Arena’s is better off in the hands of the Municipality.

The RMWB will take over the delivery of the project and submit a formal bid that will be postd on Alberta Purchasing Connection.

Council decided to reduce the scope of the project by about seven million dollars on Apr. 14, as part of its capital spending review.

On Apr. 29, the RRC told the RMWB that the board would turn the construction management responsibility of the project back over to the Municipality to allow it to continue to focus on its core mandate of advancing recreational, cultural and social activities and events in the region.

“The relationship between the RMWB and RRC continues to be productive, and the RRC will remain focused on fulfilling its core mandate,” said Michael Cachia, Chair of the Board of Directors of the RRC.

Council hopes it can better manage the budget of the project by bringing it in house.

“This Council is committed to finding cost-effective solutions and providing best value for residents, “said Deputy Mayor Keith McGrath. “By managing this project in-house, with a budget that is more closely aligned with the current economic climate, we are better able to deliver a project that meets the community’s expectations.”
