Nebraska Governor pushing for Keystone

Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman is asking the state’s top court to ignore a judge’s ruling in February on TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline.

The judge’s ruling said that the pipline was approved without proper authority.

The U.S. State Department said on April 18 that the outcome is delaying the Obama administration’s review of the project.

Since the line crosses an international boundary, TransCanada is waiting for a permit from the U.S. to build the northern leg of the pipeline.

Supporters of the project say it will create jobs while non-supporters argue it will increase global warming.

The Nebraska Surpreme Court says the process could take as long as seven months, and that’s if the case gets heard in September.

If the supreme court upholds the decision, Keystone will need to get approval by applying to the state’s Public Service Commision.

By law, the commission has seven months to consider these applications.
