New AHS program brings laughter to continuing care patients

Laughter is a great medicine, and jokes, comedy skits and pies in face are all therapeutic tools to brighten locals in continuing care.

A new Humour Therapy Program at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre has several hour-and-a-half sessions a month.

Recreational therapist Natalie Foy helped develop the program, and says in a release, its more than just fun.

She says research shows that laughing and humour can lead to benefits which can include but are not limited to less pain,stress, and depression, and better memory, mood, and self-esteem.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority that plans and delivers health supports and services for people in Alberta.

Its goal is to give a patient-focused, quality health system that everyone can get and is sustainable.
