New UK consul-general visits Fort McMurray

Suncor, oilsands project

The United Kingdom’s new consul-general to Alberta says he’ll be promoting the oil sands to investors back home.

Tony Kay told an audience in Calgary that he finally visited Fort McMurray earlier this month, and was impressed by the scale of the industry.

The Edmonton Journal reports that Kay will be the UK’s consul-general for Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, and the first one to ever reside in Calgary.

He says the British government recognizes Alberta drives the Canadian economy, and it’ll be a specific target in which to get British companies to do business.
